Day # 4
Read Genesis 1: 14-19
Here we are on Day four, and the Sun is about to rise in the sky for the very first time. So what do we observe on the fourth day? First GOD put lights in the expanse of the Heavens. What purpose do they serve? To divide the day from the night and as signs to mark the seasons and days and years. So the passing of time has been given markers, but for who and why? Another thing to notice here is that GOD put the lights in the Heavens first so that they could be seen from earth. Then GOD ‘made’, don’t let this thought pass to quickly, the two great lights the Greater (Sun) and the (Moon) lesser and set them in the expanse of Heaven to give light to the earth. GOD ‘set them’ exactly where he wanted them. He made the stars also and set them also in the expanse of heaven to give light on the earth. GOD saw it was good, evening and morning was the fourth day.
The take away from this day is the marking and passing of time is very important, so much so that there is billions and billions of reminders every time you look up to the night sky on a starry night. In the book of Isaiah chapter 40 verses 25-26 begs a question. 25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
Side Note – The Earth is the right distance
from its Sun to allow temperatures for liquid water. Not too hot, not too cold.
This is essentially the greens-fee for any form of life in the universe. The
Moon has a remarkable, stabilizing affect on our planet. Without the moon, the
rotation of the Earth would result in a day that would be far shorter, not to
mention the effect on the tides.
