Day #5

Read Genesis 1: 20-23

Day five, things start to get a little fishy (I hear your groans). What does GOD create on this day, fish and other sea life and birds of every kind. GOD then blesses what he has created and says be fruitful and multiply in the water and on the earth. This is the first time in the creation process that we are told that GOD blesses something and says be fruitful and multiply. Something to note here, GOD says to fill the waters in the seas, but the birds were only told to multiply on the earth. Another point of interest is when GOD blessed them, they were told to increase in number and become many, this is the prime root for the Hebrew words for fruitful and multiply and not to be overlooked is the part of the text that says God saw it was good. The takeaway from day five if you’ve ever gone fishing or bird watching, I’m always amazed at the wonder and diversity of both. They move and live in the medium of water and air, from swimming to flight. I truly do not understand it all, but I stand in awe of the wonder of creation, from the sounds of the songbirds to the fish and sea creatures that in habit the deepest parts of the ocean. The maker of these things is an awesome creator.

Side note - For Birds, the traditional count is between 9,000 to 10,000 species, new research has estimated the number at a possible 18,000 species. For fish estimates by scientists place the number of fish in the ocean at 3,500,000,000,000. Counting the number of fish is a daunting and near-impossible task. The number is also constantly changing due to factors such as predation, fishing, reproduction, and environmental state.
