Eaten out of house and home!
Genesis 2: 1-24
The joke goes something like this, Adam and the
boys were out foraging for food one day when one of the boys looks across a
field and see a beautiful garden, a literal paradise, they ask their Dad “Who
lives there?”, He replies that is where we use to live before your mother ate
us out of house and home. Yeah yeah, I know your groaning. That is a funny
simplistic answer, but far from what really happened. Before all this let us
look at the creation of man again, GOD formed the man out of the dust of the
ground and breathed life into him. This process was far different than the
fish, birds, and the animals as was mentioned previously. Then GOD places the
man he created in a beautiful garden he had already prepared for him to tend
and watch over. There was preparation and there was a plan. Next GOD laid out
for the man everything he could freely eat except the tree of the knowledge of
good and evil. The free choice is made available to Adam, he could remain in
community with God. Man could look to God the true judge, of what is good and evil,
or he could eat the fruit and make his own choices. To decide for himself what
is good and evil, right and wrong and become like God in that respect but
reaping the consequences for any of his own bad choices. This also would break
his relationship with God, who is the source and sustainer of life. No source,
no life, plain and simple. The death or separation would be relational and
spiritual, physical, and eventually eternal. The last thing to look at was what
GOD said about it was not good for the man to be alone. None of the animals
were suitable, do not miss that one. So, God put the man to sleep and preformed
the first surgery ever, took out one of the man’s ribs and made a woman from a
part of man. After the man woke up in post-op and was properly introduced, GOD
called her woman. A side note in all of this is Man had been naming all the
animals and she was not called Eve at this point. This is the name it claim it
authority I was referring to. For everything else except the woman, the man was
given authority over and to rule, under God’s authority. When you look through
the lens that she was created from bone of his bone, flesh of his flesh, she is
part of him, equal in purpose and authority. God did not declare his image, his
reflection good until they were both made.
Take away from all of this is Mankind, humans
(man and woman) were created in the image of God, as a community, just one of
them was not enough or good, this speaks about God, by looking at what he has
created to be his representative on earth, through this we can learn a little
more about our creator.
Next up, staring a little deeper into the
reflection.
