3 A’s Continued

Genesis Chapter 19

To continue with the reading, the Men of Sodom were threating Lot saying your not from here and you want to judge us. Sometimes people have a skewed prospective on what is truth as far as they are concerned. The truth of the matter is they were under judgement. The Angels struck all the men, young and old, outside the house with blindness. They asked Lot if he had anyone else in the city that Lot could bring with his wife, daughters, and himself, before the city was destroyed. He went and tried to persuade his daughters fiancés, but they thought he was joking, truth always has the last laugh. Psalm 37:13

Morning came and Lot and his family still had not left the city, it says they lingered. God is merciful, the Angels they took hold of Lot and his family and drug them out of the city. Once outside the city the Angels instructed them to run and not look back, escape to the hills. Lot thinking his family could not outrun the disaster, asked if the town of Zoar could be spared because it was nearby, and they could make it there. Notice the text says the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven.  This is part of the second temple period Jewish thinking of the theory of two ‘powers in heaven’. In this passage we see the LORD on the earth calling down fire from the LORD in heaven, food for thought. I am not saying their theory is correct, but God is more than meets the eye. (I apologize for the Transformer quote, but not really). At the end of the story, we see Lot and his family were greatly affected by their life in Sodom. For Lot’s wife it was disobedience to the Angels’ warning not to look back. For Lot and his daughters, the disbelief of the promise from the Angels that they would be safe in Zoar, for after all the destruction was finished, they left Zoar and fled to a cave. The two daughters had very flawed thinking that they had to have children by their father, because there were no men left. At no point did any of them consider seeking out Abraham, their family.

The children from this weird union would give rise to the Moabite peoples and the Ammonites.
