You look like your Father

Genesis Chapter 5

Genealogies, family history can sometimes be quite boring or fascinating depending on how you approach the subject. This is the list of the generations of Adam (humans). Notice at the outset God created the man and woman (both) as his image bearers and after Cain and Abel they had another son after 130 years. Daughters are not specifically mentioned so there could have been daughters born to the couple before or between Cain and Abel or between them and Seth.  The tag at the end of verse four just states that he had other sons and daughters. Notice in verse 3 it says that Seth was made in the likeness of Adam after his own image. The like part is not much of a stretch he looked like Adam, but notice he was not made as an imager of God he was an imager of Adam hence he was to inherit death just like Adam. Let us take a second to talk a little about the elephant in the room or in this case on the page, the long-life span of these people.  Jared lived nine hundred and sixty-two years. Methuselah lived a whopping nine hundred and sixty-nine years. That just seems incredible, but what were things like back then in regard to time.  I find it quite thought provoking that as I write this blog post that scientists are having conversations about 'Time'. We know that over the course of history the Earth's spin has slowed, so how fast did it use to spin? Conversely what would happen if it sped back up again? Dunno, but things could get interesting.
