Genesis Chapters 29 & 30

- Jacob meets his wife to-be Rachel as she is tending her Father’s (Laban) sheep, he introduces himself as Laban’s relative.

- Rachel runs home and tells him, and he goes out and welcomes Jacob, brings him back home and after a month-long stay offers Jacob work.

- Jacob tells Laban his real purpose for being there is to obtain a wife and he is in love with Rachel and is willing to work for Laban for seven years to be given her hand in marriage and Laban agrees.

- Jacob works for seven years, but it says in the text, the time goes by quickly because of his love for her.

- The seven years are up, and he goes to Laban to ask him to honor his promise to Jacob. They have a wedding and Jacob takes his wife.

We know at this point that Laban has pulled a fast one on Jacob and deceived him and the daughter he gave was in fact his older girl Leah. Apparently deceptive practices run in the family.  I am not condoning what Laban did, but he like his sister probably wanted to have his daughters marry into families that he approved of and would not it have been advantageous if Rebekah had two sons that could marry both sisters, Leah, and Rachel. Oh, I forgot Rachel did have twin boys, Esau, and Jacob. How convenient, two brothers from one family and two sisters from another, but Esau decided to do things his way.

- Leah because of GOD’s blessing gives birth to Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and a daughter Dinah.

- It becomes a baby competition between the two sisters and Rachel gives her servant to Jacob (apparently nothing was learned from Abrahams trials and troubles) Bilhah gives birth to Dan, Naphtali.

- Leah reciprocates and gives her servant Zilpah, and she gives birth to Gad and Asher

- Rachel was blessed by GOD and she has Joseph.

This has become an incredible messy situation, but GOD is always able to make good out of a mess. Also, if you were watching this from an outside perspective and you were trying to guess which line a savior could arise from, things just got a lot more complicated. The Adversary and his followers just got schooled again and the shell game just got complicated. Don’t play chess with GOD.
