A Prayer Life Like David's?

More undignified than this?

More undignified than this?

2 Samuel 6:16-23

A detour of sorts, but not really. I was originally going to skim over this part because at first glance it seemed like a petty, jealous thing for David's wife to bring up, but then the Holy Spirit pointed out the comparisons between David and Jesus that should have been obvious, but to be honest sometimes I just need to be hit with something square on before I see it.

- David was worshipping before the LORD, but Michal, Saul's daughter, David's first wife despised his actions and method of worship. Michal was not happy with David, and she obviously found nothing worthy about worshipping GOD whatsoever. You would think the recovery of the ark, the reestablishment of the tent and ark together in a place where all of Israel could be united together in worship to GOD would be celebrated by all. You would think that, but in Michal's case not so much. She was focused on David and not on GOD.

- This serves as an example that there can be people in our own lives that see no value in our faith, worship, and relationship with Jesus.  We are looked on as being stupid and contemptible in our beliefs and sometimes by the very people in our own families.

-  Before David goes home, he blesses the people in the name of the LORD of hosts and he gives them a meal and sends them home. When David returns to his own house to bless it, he is received with contempt from Michal and no mention of a meal. This also serves as a reminder of another home coming, albeit a future event in comparison to this one. When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, GOD's living tabernacle (not made with human hands) had entered the man-made temple. He came to his own house to bless it and his wife (Israel) has nothing but contempt for him, in fact so much so they put him out of his house, out of the city and had him nailed to a cross. Luke 13:34

- David told his wife that GOD had appointed him as prince over Israel, the people of the LORD—and I will celebrate before the LORD.

- the son has been appointed over Israel, the nations and whole world and there will be a great wedding celebration before the LORD.

- David said to Michal "I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes. Verse 22

- Jesus humbled himself left heaven was born in a manger and as if that wasn't enough, he would be spit on, beaten, scourged, mocked, striped naked and hung on a tree, and considered accursed.

Can you get any more abased than this? Can you be more undignified than this?

- After Jesus' resurrection, and all the first fruits of that day, I wonder did they dance for joy before the LORD?  Matthew 27:52-53

- David told Michal that he would be honored in the eyes of his servants. The principality and powers, the rebels are like Michal in their contempt for GOD and his Christ, but those of us who use to be servants he now calls friends and family. John 15:15

- the last verse reads - And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death. There is no heritage for Michal as there will be no heritage for those who hold the LORD's Christ as contemptible.

There is a day coming soon - Philippians 2:10 ESV reads, "so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,"

Choose to bow willingly now or be made to on the way to judgement and eternal separation.
