Our Fortress
Psalm 46
1 To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Trouble will come, Jesus forwarned us —
"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
He is present in our troubles providing refuge, strength, and help.
The recurring theme "do not fear" is internalize by the Psalmist because he knows GOD is indeed present in our troubles. Things of this world and from other relams will try an make us fearful, but just like Jesus in the disciples boat we have no reason to fear because he is with us. Jesus — And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. Matthew 8:26
In verse two if the earth opens up and tries to swallow us, earth quakes and mudslides try to shake us, tsunamis and the raging sea try and pull us under, but we know the one who can rebuke it all with one "peace be still!"
Verse four reminds us not only of a location, but the fact of wherever GOD dwells and calls home, the very waters that are present there are rejoicing and they a reason for the inhabitants to be rejoicing. GOD in her midst will keep her immovable.
Hebrews 12:28 — Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.
We may have to go through dark nights, but the promise is sure, "God will help her when morning dawns."
All around our world nations are either sabre rattling, fighting, and killing. Dictators, rulers, and wannabe kings are falling over like drunken sailers. The earth melts under GOD's word - Jesus.
Verse 7 the LORD of hosts (the LORD of heaven), the GOD of Jacob (the GOD of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob) is our fortress, he is the one true fortress. He is distinct from the coming pretender and "his" god — Daniel 11:37-38 He (anti-christ) shall pay no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the one beloved by women. He shall not pay attention to any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all. He shall honor the god of fortresses instead of these. A god whom his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.
Verse nine only GOD can put an end to wars and demolish all thier weapons. Then enemy comes to instigated wars and GOD will come and put an end to them and all the rebels.
Get ready Mr. Devil your bow is about to be broken and your ride torched.
Verse 10 and 11 - When the dust settles the one true fortress will be the only one left standing and all those who took refuge in him and just like Moses spoke in Exodus 14:13 we will also hear - “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. (and yes, I exchanged the word Egypt with the Devil and his buddies) For the Devil and all his rebels who are his, whom you see today, you shall never see again. The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
My prayer that we would stand firm, be silent and don't try and tell GOD what, when, and how he should be working. Thank you Jesus for fighting for us, for being our Fortress. We will witness your salvation and exalted you in all the earth and in all the nations. Amen.
