🚨 Shields Up
Psalm 47
1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
2 For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.
3 He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
4 He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah
5 God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7 For God is the King of all the earth;sing praises with a psalm!
8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!
GOD is the great King over all the earth.
Notice there is a hierarchy in GOD's family there are princes under him and there are elders who sit on Thrones (Revelation 4:4 — Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads.)
Michael who has been mentioned before as a chef prince, one of the Chief Prinece's in Daniel 10:13 — The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia,
There is also the prince of the kingdom of Persia and Greece see Daniel 10:20 — Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come.
There is the prince of the power of the air. Obviously there are princes like Michael that work faithfully behind the scene, but the ones who make the most headlines are the rebels. Much like here on earth, there are great numbers of GOD's people working hard for GOD's kingdom, but the ones making the news are the few that are either in open rebellion or who have fallen into sin and the Devils schemes.
Some people may think boy!, he's really stuck on the Devil / Satan, demons, angels ideology. Imagine for a moment waking up in 1945, on a cold January morning on the western front and you've decided to go out without your helmet, protective gear and your weapon. You just got up and wanted to forget you were in a war and part of a battle. How do you think you would fair? If you don't believe we are at war then Paul's admonition will fall flat - Ephesians 6:11 — Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Notice in verse three GOD is one who sudues people and nations. We are following him, but he is the one doing the work.
Verse four hasn't changed GOD hasn't loved Jacob past tense, he loves Jacob present and eternally. The LORD wasn't the GOD of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob past tense. He is present tense, thier GOD. Matthew 22:32 ESV — ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” Selah - pause on this thought.
Verse five talks about GOD going "up" with a shout. He ascended, went up. The question that comes to my mind is go up from where?
This is immediately followed by sing praises to our GOD and KING. When I think of this the scripture Ephesians 4:8 comes to mind — Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” and Revelation 5:9 — And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.
If there was ever and always a reason for GOD's people to sing praises this should be it.
- all the nations of the earth will do well remembering this point verse 8 - God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

- Verse 9 the shields are all about protecting what GOD holds dear, the princes were not to be weapons of war, but instruments of protecting what GOD has made. Unfortunately there are "princes" hell bent on destroying and not protecting.
My prayer, thank you heavenly father for Jesus. He is our reason for singing praises to you, he has ascended with a shout and given us your Holy Spirit. I pray your princes would shield and protect what you love and we your people would stand fast in prayer against those rebels that seek to destroy what you have made. In Jesus name I ask and thank you, amen.
