Rock On

Rock On

Psalm 58

1 To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David. Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly?
2 No, in your hearts you devise wrongs;
your hands deal out violence on earth.
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.
4 They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
5 so that it does not hear the voice of charmers or of the cunning enchanter.
6 O God, break the teeth in their mouths;
tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD!
7 Let them vanish like water that runs away;
when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted.
8 Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun.
9 Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!
10 The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.”

 Verses 1-2

One interesting thought about this type of psalm from some scholars is that Michtam could possibly refer to the set of psalms that David engraved, wrote on the walls of the caves that he was hiding in. His song, prayer, and petitions were written on the rock and to the "rock" eternal.
Deut 32:4, Isaiah 26:4, 2 Samuel 22:2

Could these psalms, if indeed written on rock be considered the first Rock Ballads?
(Sorry, just my warped sense of humor.)

Some scholars think that David had the unrighteousness elders and judges in mind that conspired with King Saul to hunt him down and kill him. I find it somewhat interesting and timely that Saul and the elders would use thier hate of David to pass a law and judgement that they considered to be in the best interest of their country. GOD had approved and annointed David and Samuel wrote about it (GOD's word), but even if they had read it at the time, would the elders and judges have considered that hate literature?
Hatred against everything they believed to be right and true?
A purely Canadian perspective on my part ;)

We see by this example and the example of the religious leaders at the time of Jesus, they got it completely wrong.

John 18:14 — It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it would be expedient that one man should die for the people.

John 11:49-53
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.” He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they made plans to put him to death.

Luke 22:2 — And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.

Verses 3-6

Compare how it is now to how it will be.

Wicked leaders then and now compared to leaders with a bond servants heart.

Mark 10:42-45
And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be bond servant of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Compare deaf venomous snakes then and now to snakes that have GOD given hearing aids.

Isaiah 11:8 — The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

Compare the young lions then and now with the ones found in the new heavens and earth.

Isaiah 11:6 — The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.

Isaiah 65:25 ESV — The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the LORD.

Verses 7-9

GOD will wash it all away.
Rev 7:17 — For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
And
Rev 21:4 — He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Verses 10 & 11

Psalm 23:5 — You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Having rejected GOD's sacrifice and blood atonement the wicked will attempt to atone by thier own deeds and thier own blood and they will be found wanting.

Revelation 14:20 — And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.

Horse's bridle approx height is 4 to 5 feet.
1600 stadia approx. 180 to 200 miles or 289 to 321 kilometers. Even if the hight is an hyperbolic expression, a person could still "bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked."

For all those who ask why GOD doesn’t judge wickedness or evil this will be the final answer to all those questions. Although we often hear why does GOD not do something about ______ and then when he does they still criticize it as being too harsh. We cannot have it both ways either GOD judges or we do and our track record for the last 6,000 ish years speaks for itself, we've failed miserably.

My prayer, we wait patiently LORD for you because you desire all to come to the knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ and don't wish to see any persish, but judgement doesn't tarry forever and there are eyes that you long to wipe free from every tear. Thank you for your mercy and thank you for your righteous judgement in Jesus name, amen.
