The Gardner

The Gardner

Psalm 65

1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song. Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed.
2 O you who hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come.
3 When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
4 Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!
5 By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas;
6 the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might;
7 who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples,
8 so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs. You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.
9 You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it.
10 You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth.
11 You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.
12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy,
13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.

Verse 1
GOD is worthy of our silent praises and promises. They may be silent, but he still hears them.    "Knowing thier thoughts"

Matthew 9:4 — But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

Luke 5:22— When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts?

Luke 11:17 — But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.

John 6:64 — But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)

Verse 2
GOD (The Father, The Son, the Holy Spirit) is the one who hears our prayers.

Silent prayers - Samuel 2:1 - Hannah
"I heard you" prayers - 1 Kings 9:3, 2 kings 19:20, 2 kings 20:5, 2 Chronicles 7:12
"That's how it works" prayers - He prays I hear - Job 42:8
Special delivery prayer responses - Daniel 10:12
Stored Prayers - Some our kept safe in bowls for just the right moment - Revelation 8:3-5

Verse 3
David sings when iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions. Did you pick up what David was putting down? GOD atones for our transgressions.

Look at Genesis 20:6 — Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you (Abimelech) have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her.

This was something that could have been done to Sarah and Abraham, but the person that potentially could have been sinned against was GOD.

In Mark 2:7 the Pharisees rightly said only GOD can forgive sins — “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” but Jesus could because he was the one who had been sinned against.

Matthew 25:40 — And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Sin gets done to GOD and it has to be atoned for and he has chosen the person of Jesus on the cross. He was the one wronged and he gets to choose how it gets paid. Conversely when we do what is right as in Matt 25:40 we also do it to the LORD. Do you see the theme?

Verse 4
Blessed to be living in GOD's house.

John 14:2 — In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Psalm 84:10 — For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

The amazing thing is it won't be just a day it will be an eternity. Living there will be so amazing, unspeakable, and unfathomable thay you will want it to last forever. That is exactly what GOD has planned and prepared for his children.

See Psalm 31:19 and 1 Corinthians 2:9

Verse 5
Farthest Seas, Ends of the Earth, highest Heaven, lowest part of Sheol, darkest Night or brightest Day, you can't hide from Yahweh.

GOD's righteous deeds, salvation, and hope extends to the ends of the Earth and the farthest seas. There is no person located anywhere on this planet that is ever to far that GOD cannot reach them.

David understood this in psalm 139 — Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.

Verse 6
GOD makes the impossible, possible.

Jeremiah 32:17 — ‘Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.

Jesus put it this way in Mark 10:27 — Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”

Verses 7and 8
Who stills the roaring Seas, Waves, and the tumult of the peoples?

Seas
Mark 4:39 — And he (Jesus) awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

WAVES
Psalm 107:28-30 — Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.

The tumult of people
John 6:19-21 - When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

Matthew 14:33 — And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Little did the disciples know that they had answered a series of questions posed in a proverb by king Agur - Proverbs 30:4  Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know! GOD (Abba Father) and Jesus

Verses 9-13
These verses display the heart of the maker and keeper of the Garden.

He enriches, waters, grows wheat, cereal, grain, corn. Watering the land abundantly with soft showers and blessing it so as to cause growth. Wherever GOD goes snd plants there is abundance. Pastures hidden in wilderness areas overflow, hills are a joy to behold, meadows are teaming with wildlife. Valleys are full of food and everything shouts together for the faithfulness and work of the Gardner.

Genesis 2:8 — And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

He enjoyed walking in the garden in the cool of the day to cultivate his relationship with his children, that is before we chose to hide.

Genesis 3:8 — And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

In the person of Jesus we see this love for the garden:
Mark 14:26 — And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Luke 22:39 — And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.

John 8:1 — but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

He was even mistaken for a gardener:

John 20:15 — Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”

Jesus came to fix what the first human gardener broke.

My prayer - Heavenly Father plant your will and your way in our hearts and cause it to grow in overflowing abundance, we ask in Jesus' name amen.
