Annihilationism or Eternal Conscious Punishment
This has been making its rounds on YouTube, podcasts and other social media platforms.
Thoughts -
- The religious leaders of the day had ideas of what the Messiah was suppose to do or look like when he showed up - and they were wrong.
- They had the Scriptures before hand (and yes some of them were probably scholars) - and they were wrong.
- They think they know what's needed to be saved and live with Jesus. With all our current understanding and doctrines of baptism, excepting "Jesus in your heart.", reciting the "sinners prayer" etc. and then there is the thief on the cross. - and they would've been wrong.
- People had no idea what to expect at Pentecost, they had Jesus's promise, they had scripture and then - the fire fell. Im pretty sure they were surprised.
- Hell has been around for thousands of year's, we've heard stories, caught glimpses in scripture, NDE's, Jesus's teachings. On the other hand how many times has the Lake of fire appeared in scripture? Five times.
We know roughly what to expect of hell, but the lake of fire is new. How do we know exactly what happens to anything spirit or otherwise thrown into this lake?
Personally I'm going to opt for being wrong on any of my guessing and let GOD be GOD and his judgement rule. Like Abraham I too will say, "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”
Do you waver between two opinions or live whole heartedly in one camp or the other?
annihilationism or eternal conscious punishment? Who is right? GOD is right.
For all the scholars out there, be honest you wouldn't have faired any better than Nicodemus talking to Jesus. You are certainly not as knowledgeable or book smart as a 6,000 plus year old rebel leader who has come up short on all his theories.
Let GOD be GOD and let us concentrate on the gospel, the great commission, and keeping people out of hell and the lake of fire.
GOD Bless
