Psalm 70
1 To the choirmaster. Of David, for the memorial offering. Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me!
2 Let them be put to shame and confusion
who seek my life! Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt!
3 Let them turn back because of their shame
who say, “Aha, Aha!”
4 May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great!”
5 But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay!
Psalm 70 thoughts
Verse 1 - Make Haste
This is interesting and somewhat comical when you delive into the attributes and nature of GOD. Ive personally fallen into the same thinking in my own life when reflecting on how long it took before receiving an answer to prayer or maybe I'm till waiting on GOD to answer my prayer(s) and I wish he would as the Psalmist puts it "make haste."
There is a song I like calked "The Right Time" by a band named Disciple, which puts GOD's timing into perspective and speaks to my heart.

Then just at the right time God comes crashing in
Just at the right time I’m saved by His hand
Just when I thought all hope was lost and this would be the end
There was God just at the right time
I'll include a link to the song, but be forwarned its not your typical "church" song. They are a Christian metal and hard rock group. Although this would be considered one of thier tamer songs.
GOD never has to make haste because he is omnipresent and is never far from anyone.
Paul explains this in Acts 17:27 — that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,
The hard part is to trust GOD for his perfect timing and not our request that he would operate (make haste) according to our (my) timing.
- A Memorial Offering
Leviticus 2:4-10
“When you bring a grain offering baked in the oven as an offering, it shall be unleavened loaves of fine flour mixed with oil or unleavened wafers smeared with oil. And if your offering is a grain offering baked on a griddle, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mixed with oil. You shall break it in pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. And if your offering is a grain offering cooked in a pan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil. And you shall bring the grain offering that is made of these things to the LORD, and when it is presented to the priest, he shall bring it to the altar. And the priest shall take from the grain offering its memorial portion and burn this on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
Unleavened wafers (bread) ➡️ Jesus
John 6:41 — So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”
Mixed with oil ➡️ HOLY SPIRIT
Mark 1:10 — And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
Break it in pieces ➡️ Broken body of Christ
Mark 14:22— And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.”
A pleasing aroma ➡️ Christ's atonement
Ephesians 5:2 — And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
What does a memorial offerings look like in the lives of believers?
See Acts 10:1-4
At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God. About the ninth hour of the dayfn he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.”
And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
Verses 2-3
The Psalmist through the SPIRIT gives a future picture, a shadow which to us is now history - That they would be put to shame and confusion. Thier plots and plans turned back on them and they be dishonored,
The Who? - the ones that sought to hurt him, the religious leaders, the Sanhedrin, some of the Pharisees, the High Priest, the rulers, authorities, principalities, cosmic powers, and spiritual forces in the heavenly relams, the Devil.
Ephesians 6:12 — For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Disarmed and put to open shame.
Colossians 2:15 — He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Verse 4-5 - GOD is great
Put simply, yes you are.
Revelation 11:17 — saying, “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign.
We are indeed all poor and needy. Christ Jesus has hastened to us. On this side of the cross he has not delayed he has been here and has delivered us. Now, its not us waiting on him, he is waiting on those that have yet to believe on Jesus.
2 Peter 3:9 — The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
It's not GOD that needs to "make haste", the haste (ball) is now in our court.
My prayer, Heavenly Father I would pray for one more person, the lost sheep, for the person and people to take the final step to follow you, get baptized, make a confession of faith, to hurry up while there is yet still time. We echo the Psalmist, we love your salvation and you are indeed great, thank you LORD in Jesus name, amen.
