FULLY FOOL
"A terror filled ride!" Sissy & Eggbert
"All that running for no reason!" Tom Cruiser
"None is good?" Rotten Tomates and other produce.
The movie everyone is dying to see, but only if they've done a good deed first.
Psalm 53
To the choirmaster: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David.
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
3 They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
4 Have those who work evil no knowledge,
who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God?
5 There they are, in great terror, where there is no terror! For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.
6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
Thoughts:
Verses 1-3
GOD has already named the atheist, a fool. His descriptors are corrupt and abominable. There is no one who does good. This is by GOD's standards, we don't get to set the bar, or leave it on the floor in the case of some. GOoD all the time, not just occasionally or when it suits us. The rich young man in Matthew 19:16 asked Jesus what good deed did he need to do to obtain eternal life. This gives us some insight into his view of life after death:
1) it wasn't automatically eternal, it needed to be obtained.
2) it could be obtained by doing one good deed?
3) We see by the thier conversation even though he told Jesus he had kept all the commands. In his own estimation, just like we call others and perhaps ourselves "good" by our own standards. He correctly discerned that keeping the law wasn't enough or possible realized he also needed a "deed". What he failed to understand that Jesus was the only one capable of doing the "good deed" and it would bless everyone.
Verse 4
Evil people and rebel elohim (spirits) have no knowledge. Its literally a "no" brain-er. Instead of loving and taking care of thier brothers and sisters they choose themselves. The ministering spirits are also supposed to be serving. (Taking care of others) See Hebrews 1:14 — Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?
Evil people and elohim demand to be served at the expense of others. Look at the example Jesus modeled for the disciples and all of us. Mark 10:45 — For even the Son of Man (Jesus) came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Evil people are consumers because thier father is the prince of consumers.
See 1 Peter 5:8, John 8:44, and Acts 3:14. These all show who some are following after. They won't call upon GOD because they don't follow after the things that GOD loves.
Verse 5
Evil people operate out of terror (fear and dread), but not the awe of GOD. They fear that he will show up unexpectedly. Proverbs 28:1 — The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. The evil one and all that are his are rejected and will enter into everlasting shame. Daniel 12:2 — And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Verse 6
The Psalmist longed for the day that salvation would come out of Zion. For us on this side of the cross that has been profetically fulfilled and we can indeed rejoice and be glad for the salvation through Jesus Christ our LORD.
My prayer is similar to Paul's in 2 Timothy 1:6 - Dear heavenly Father remind us to fan into flame the gift of the Holy Spirit, which you have sealed us with. Thank you that you have given us a spirit of power, love, and self-control. We are not ashamed of the testimony about you Lord, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of your own purpose and grace, which you gave to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began. Thank you heavenly Father in Jesus name, Amen.
