Psalm 50
1 A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
3 Our God comes; he does not keep silence;
before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest.
4 He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
6 The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah
7 “Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.
8 Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me.
9 I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine.
12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
16 But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips?
17 For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.
18 If you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you keep company with adulterers.
19 “You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your brother;
you slander your own mother’s son.
21 These things you have done, and I have been silent;you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
22 “Mark this, then, you who forget God,
lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!
23 The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”
Thoughts -
Verse 1
GOD has called and summoned the earth. He's named it and it belongs to him. Mr. Prince of the power of the air, you and yours are just squatters and illegal "aliens". GOD and those who are called by his name will Impeach, Charge, and Execute final judgement over you. We will be GOD's agents of I.C.E.
(1 Corinthians 6:3 — Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!)
Verse 2
GOD's perfect beauty shines. He is the Shekinah Glory, the light that lights creation before anything was made. The light upon the earth three days before the sun existed. He is the reason Moses' face shone, (Exodus 34:35), he is Joshua's long day (Joshua 10:10-14), he is new Jerusalem's light source (Rev 21:23 & 22:5).
Verse 3
A Thundering Fire.
Job 37:4— After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice, and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard.
And
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28-29
Verse 5
Gathering - GOD did it before and he will do it again.
Ezekiel 20:34 — I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out.
Joel 3:2— I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land,
Scattered people and divided land, ring any bells?
Zechariah 14:2— For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses plundered and the women raped. Half of the city shall go out into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
Mark 13:27 — And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
Verse 6
GOD is the judge. Then what do we make of Acts 17:31 — because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” ⬅️ that's Jesus.
And Jesus said in John 5:22 — For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
Who is the son of man? - Dan 7:13, Rev 1:13, Re v 14:14.
Jesus is the son of Man, he is GOD he, is the second person of who GOD is.
Verse 7
GOD is testifying against Israel, that should be enough to make anyone tremble.
Verse 8 - 9
Israel's problem wasn’t thier sacrifices, GOD wasn't looking for beef, blood, doves, flour, bread, oil, spices, incense, he is looking for a thankful and obedient heart. Going through the motions isn't going to suffice.
Verses 10 to 12
For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. “If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.
This shows you how little the Devil knew about the "son of GOD" he assumed he was either exactly like the first Adam or something like an elohim, maybe.
They both needed fuel. The angels - Psalm 78:25 — Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance.
Matthew 4:3 ESV — And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”
The Devil was looking for a display of power or authority. I hope he now sees psalm 50 verse 12 and it makes him wince. It was true when the Psalmist wrote it it was true when Jesus was in the wilderness and it's still true today.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.
Verse 13
Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
No he's looking for thankfulness, obedience, trust, and relationship.
Verse 16
The wicked, meaning the criminal, the one quilty of a crime, hostile to GOD, quilty of sin against GOD or man.
That person or created being (yeah, the rebels are in the crosshairs too.)
What right do they have to talk about GOD's laws and covenant making, kerping, or violating. These things shouldn't even be on thier lips. It would be like one criminal lecturing another criminal about things they both had stole from the same homeowner.
The same mouth that's lecturing and condemning (case in point — And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.)
A mouth like that (elohim or man) speaks:
- evil
- deceit
- maligns
- vilifies
Man and some elohim are both quilty of taking GOD's silence on the matter as acceptance and believing GOD agrees with them.
They choose to ignore the way of love -
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13 4-8 (first part of 8)
GOD hopes we will choose to love, protect and care for our brother. He continually hopes his wayward child will come home. The story of king David's son Absolom is wonderful example an insight of a fathers love for his wayward son. Absolom was beautiful (2 Samuel 14:25), wise and rebellious, but David never stopped loving him or wanting him to return home. How much more does GOD desire this for all of his children? How far would you go to bring them home? To be the example, to go to the cross, death, and the grave. How far would a good father go?
Verse 17
The evil person or elohim hates correction and will not listen to GOD's words. Meaning they want nothing to do with the word of GOD.
Verse 18
Theives and adulterers are pleasing in an evil persons sight. One steals the stuff of our lives the other steals pieces of our soul. The evil persons tongue plots it course straight to hell. James 3:6 — And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
Verses 19-21
They have taken GOD's silence as acceptance, but GOD rebukes them and lays the charge at thier feet. Jesus' death on the cross changed everything. It is now thd only way forward to GOD. Those who continue to put GOD's word behind them are not excepting GOD's only way forward - Acts 4:12 — And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Christ's sacrifice and GOD's free gift will not help the rebel elohim, they like king Saul know exactly what end is waiting for them. King Saul had a choice he could have abdicated instead of dying on that hill and except GOD's punishment for his disobedience. He could have gave up power and authority to David and saved lives in the process. Saul couldn't manage a selfless act as I believe neither is it possible for the prince of the power of the air or the other rebels.
Verse 22
For all humans and elohim who have forgotten, this is who you should fear - GOD who can tear apart and no one will be able to save you. Colossians 1:17 — And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. If he holds it together what happens when he decides not to hold it together any longer?
Verse 23
You want to glorify GOD? Be thankful, offer it up to GOD and say thank you. Believe it, mean it, live it daily. Those who set this as thier direction, GOD will reveal his salvation and his salvation is Jesus Christ.
My prayer - Heavenly Father, thank you and thank you for Jesus. Help us to walk with you daily and thank you for your Holy Spirit.
