A Prayer Life Like David's?

the Beginning # 1

the Beginning # 1

The best place to begin is well at the beginning, so let’s dive in.

Read Genesis Chapter 1: 1-5

Genesis Chp1 This is the day.

What are some interesting observations from the first day? GOD created the Heavens and the earth period. Was there anything before this? Where was GOD before all this and how long did he exist there? These are good questions, but they revolve around time and a location. GOD resides outside of time and location. They were created by him, Heaven and Earth. Notice that before the earth, not yet formed and empty, there was what the author refers to as waters and it was dark and the Spirit of God was hovered over the waters. What are the waters? The answer to that question GOD has not shared yet. The waters were present along with the Spirit of God before the first thing is created. Then God said let there be light and it was so and he called the light good. Evening and morning were the first day. It is interesting to note at this point we have no earth yet, it is simply mentioned that it will come into existence and we have no Sun, moon or stars either, they come later.

Our day presently is measured by the earth rotating along with the sun giving us a measurable period of time. You could be dogmatic about the length of the first day, but I think we should leave the answer to that one up to God who was there and not to those of us who were not. So what do we have so far? Spirit, water and light and a day, a period of time. Time is created so remember this going forward, time is part of creation, it works for GOD not the other way around. GOD literally has all the time in creation, the Apostle Peter in the new testament letter of Second Peter chapter 3 verse 8 attempts to wrap the readers mind around GOD and the concept time. To the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Which means GOD can accomplish a lot in the of a run of a day, it takes GOD no time at all and passing of time takes no time as well, a thousand years is like a day because GOD is outside of time. GOD sees the end from the beginning because GOD bookends time.

What is the take away from all of this, we can take great comfort in knowing that time and distance can never stop God from reaching out to us. The Paul Apostle describes it this way in his letter to Timothy, 1 Timothy 2:4 (GOD) who desires all people to be saved.

Therefore GOD is able to reach out to people in the very last infinitesimal second of their life, for time is always on the Lord’s side.

Side note - Water makes up 60-75% of human body weight. A loss of just 4% of total body water leads to dehydration, and loss of 15% can be fatal. Likewise, a person could survive a month without food but typically wouldn’t survive 3 to 5 days without water. This crucial dependence on water broadly governs all life forms.
