A Prayer Life Like David's?

Abram, Sarai, and a Lot of deception

Abram, Sarai, and a Lot of deception.

Genesis Chapter 12 – 14

To quickly review, at Babel God disinherits the nations and puts them under authority to sons of God, who are under God’s authority. In case you think I am making it up, check out Deuteronomy 32: 7-9, keep in mind that Israel was not even a nation at the time of the Babel incident. Also check out these two places, Psalm 82: 1-8, Psalm 89: 5-8. Back to Abram, God calls him, tells him he will be with him, protect him, watch over him, bless him. Abram listens, obeys, and leaves for the land God has promised him on, proof? A written agreement? Historical evidence? A google search? No strictly on faith (trust) in God’s word of something he has not seen yet.

Fast forward in the text Abram and family head down to Egypt because of a famine in the land. He tells Sarai to tell people if they ask that Abram is Sarai’s brother because she is an exceptionally beautiful woman, and an Egyptian might desire to have her for himself and kill Abram to have her. Ok not only did we just forget about the part that just spoke of God taking care of Abram and his family, but the events of Eden are also back to haunt us again. Just like Adam, Abram is only concerned for his own skin. He would rather Sarai lie than openly be her husband and stand beside his wife even at the risk of his own life. I say this because Jesus, the second Adam as he is referred to in scripture came to fix a whole lot of broken. He stood up for his bride, the Church (that’s you and me) and willing laid down his life for her. Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Ephesians 5: 28,29 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church. I will get off my soap box now, next up Abram and Lot sperate. Lot Abram’s nephew picks the Jordan valley next to Sodom and Gomorrah and Abram’s group settle in Hebron.

In chapter 14 Lot and his family and all his possessions are taken as spoils of war in a battle fought between the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah and other kings in the Jordan valley against the combined forces of the kings of Shiner, Ellasar, Elam and Goiim. Abram hears about this after his Nephew and his family are taken, pursues them with his own men and recovers Lot and his family and all his possessions. Abram meets someone called Melchizedek, king of Salem who we are going to take a close look at next.

Next – A priestly King or a Kingly priest, which is it?
