New calendar, save the Date
Exodus 12, 13, 14, 15
- GOD through Moses and Aaron institute the Passover to be kept as a remembrance of what the LORD did to all the first born of Egypt.
- This will be the beginning of a new month and a new calendar for the fledgling nation of Israel, they will now be operating under GOD's timetable.
- First the feast of Unleavened bread, then the Passover meal.
- I find it interesting that the young animal sacrifice could be taken from either the sheep or the goats and its blood would be the substitution the destroyer would accept. We read later that when Israel left Egypt and journeyed from Ramses to Succoth a mixed multitude also went with them. They too had been passed over, this sheep and goats’ comparison will crop up later in the Gospels, GOD’s mercy is available to everyone that believes, but as we will see you not only have to believe you have to continue to walk in that belief.
- In Exodus 13 the people are reminded of the destination, a land promised to their fathers flowing with milk and honey.
- GOD tells the people through Moses that because of what happened in Egypt all their firstborn among the children of Israel whether man or animal, belongs to the LORD and first-born male children they must redeem by a lamb. This will act too as a memorial for when their children ask why they do this, the parents will tell them about what happened in Egypt.
- Moses brings the bones of Joseph with them, also showing what he had prophesied long ago had come to past in their sight.
- The Israelites set up camp at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.
- The LORD went with them as a visible pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
- Exodus 14 the sea crossing, there has been much speculation by scholars where this could be. There are some good theories, but I think that is all they are theories. I believe it is linked to a similar reason why no one knows for certain where Moses is buried except GOD. Someone else would use this knowledge for their own ends. The book of Jude 1:9 makes mention of this, the Adversary was arguing with Michael over the body of Moses. Why? What was he planning? Dunno
- I have mentioned these things to make this point, just as Noah and his family were saved by passing through the waters, also a baby named Moses and those that follow Jesus’ example are baptized through water. The Israelites passed over from death to life through water, it is all part of the journey. The one who saves in every example is GOD, it is not the Ark, not the basket, not Moses’ stick, and not the water.
- Exodus 15 the Song of Moses, it did not make it to iTunes or the billboard top 100, but there is a lot of interesting info buried in that song.
- We go from singing and three days later to whining, a drastic shift to the melody of Marah, the bitter waters. GOD again uses the natural to perform the miraculous by way of a tree (Log). Notice what the LORD says here, and it will be the springboard for the next chapter.
- There the LORD made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your GOD, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.” What is the test?
- We leave them camped at Elim amongst 70 palm trees and 12 springs of water, it’s not 'the Eden', but considering the surroundings it’s not to shabby.
Next – This is a test of the EBS, please stand by.
