A Prayer Life Like David's?

Wanton Wife & Dreams, Dreams, Dreams

Wanton Wife & Dreams, Dreams, Dreams

Genesis Chapter 39, 40

- Joseph is in Egypt sold as a slave to an officer of Pharaoh.

- From an outside perspective looking into Joseph’s predicament, we are told that GOD is with him, part of the plan.

- GOD brings success to whatever Joseph does and it doesn’t go unnoticed by his Boss. So, Potiphar puts Joseph in charge over everything concerning his household.

Let’s dive a little deeper here, if GOD has placed you in a situation where you can be a blessing and cause those around you to question why things always go well when your around, give GOD the glory and maybe GOD will use it to draw a searching soul to himself. Conversely if you see no reason for good things to be coming your way all of a sudden, look around you might spot a Joseph in your midst and hidden from view the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords working behind the scenes waiting for you to take notice and give him the glory.

- Potiphar’s wife found Joseph easy to look at and started chasing him.

- Joseph lets her know point blank, no! and says it is wicked thing and a sin against GOD. The question you need to be asking at this point is how does Joseph know that? We are a way off yet from the Ten Commandments and “You shall not commit adultery”. This very well could be a commentary look back from the Jewish perspective of the author already having and living under the law. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t explain Joseph’s response and reasoning.  The only things that would come close is either GOD telling him outright it was wrong, like what happened to Abimelech, Sarah, and Abraham or as the author of Romans puts it - Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. Romans 12:14-15

- Potiphar’s wife sets up Joseph and Potiphar buys her lies and ships him off to prison, but the LORD is with him even in prison.

Pausing here for a moment do not let that picture go by to quickly that you miss it, please. Not everyone who is in prison is guilty, I know you’ve heard that before, but second and more important, bars and a prison do not ever, ever, ever, keep out GOD and he can do an unbelievable work in a prison and in a prisoner, hold on to that.

- Meanwhile Pharaoh is doing a Gordon in Hell’s Kitchen on his staff and throws his chief cup bearer and the chief baker in prison.

- While they are spending time locked up, they both have wacky dreams, and it causes them a bit of distress.

- Joseph is kind to them both and listens to them, telling them only GOD can interpret their dreams, but go ahead and tell me.

- Joseph’s dream interpretation is spot on for both men, GOD is working behind the scenes. The chief cup bearer gets his job back and the chief baker is a shish kabob unfortunately.

- The cup bearer forgets all about Joseph, but GOD does not, and his timing is perfect, sometimes we just must wait. (Waiting is never easy, I completely agree.)
