Joshua Chapter 10

-      Five Amorite kings align against Joshua and against Israel, and meanwhile behind the scenes principalities and powers are refusing to yield precious real estate to GOD’s fledgling nation.

-      Just like Jericho, Ai, and Gibeon the Amorite Kings and their people knew their time was up. The writing was on the wall for 400 plus years.

-      The kings would try and exact retribution on Gibeon first for their supposed betrayal and siding with the Hebrews. Also, because militarily they may have been considered Gibeon a greater force to be reckoned with in their eyes than Israel itself. Look at verse two, Gibeon was considered greater than Ai and all its men were warriors.

-      Gibeon pleads for help for the coming battle because quite possibly in their  agreement to servitude to Israel it could have or should have necessitated them to laying down, giving up all their weapons of war. That would just make good sense if you were Joshua and the Elders, setting this as part of the terms of the service. You don’t give people weapons that could possibly betray you or worse find out to late that whole thing was a trap just to gain trust.

-      GOD again tells Joshua and the people of Israel do not to fear. In my mind five against one is not good odds or math, but with GOD in the equation it changes any calculations outcome.

-      The Sun standing still is an amazing, once in a lifetime event, I cannot deny that fact, but before we get there let us look at verse 11. While the armies of the Five kings were fleeing before Israel, the LORD threw large stones from heaven, more were killed by the hailstones then what Israel killed with the sword. This is nothing short of amazing.

-      GOD can not only route an army, but also provide air support. As I write this blog post in the news there is talk of a new hypersonic missile and the possible implications of such a devastating weapon. I would like to echo GOD’s words “do not fear” GOD is more powerful than many Kings and his air support is unparalleled. The important thing to ask yourself, who’s camp am I in?

-      Then the  Sun stands still, which is an event like no other and could have implications like the hail that was just mentioned previously. Joshua had asked and GOD provided, but it was an event timed perfectly by GOD. Remember as well that no guidance system, no matter how advanced is better than the One who created the “time” that all systems are dependent on.

-      Joshua and his men, with GOD’s help are victorious over the Five kings and their armies.

-      Another interesting point that is not mentioned in the text but is alluded to in Chapter 9:17 the march from Gilgal to Gibeon was a quick trip, but not a short trip. Joshua and his men endured a forced march up to where Gibeon was located (forced ascent) and then they “chased” the fleeing armies for a period that was part of a day that has no equal.

-      The text never mentions Joshua, or his men needing rest or being fatigued, this is nothing short of GOD’s provision for his people and another miracle.

-       In conclusion Military might means nothing to GOD, Aerial superiority, Advantage, and Ability is in the LORD’s camp.

Final question – In who’s camp do you want to be found?

Next – ‘A Lot meant’ nothing if you don’t buy into it.
