Do Not Hesitate to Go
(New Testament detour)
Acts 10: 1-44
Key Passage - Acts 10:20
“So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
The key verse is all about the Holy Spirit, he is the one who prepares, teaches, anoints (falls on), and give gifts.
The key question is why does this matter to GOD?
- GOD’s desire is to all of the members of his family both elohim (the spirits) the angels and us his human imagers to join him in his work of restoration. He does not need any help from any of us (spirit or human), but GOD desires that we want what he wants, freely out of love for him.
Explanation
- an angel of GOD was sent to Cornelius (preparation work done by the Holy Spirit)
- GOD teaches Peter in a vision (teaching and preparation by the Holy Spirit)
- The Holy Spirit sends Peter saying “Do not hesitate to go ...”
- Peter then talks to Cornelius and his household, friends and relatives, about Jesus (Peter part was obedience)
- It was the Holy Spirit that fell on them ( his work)
- It was the Holy Spirit that imparted the gifts (his work)
Questions to ponder:
- Do we wrongly assume it is up to us to find people to share the good news of Jesus with?
- Are we open to the Holy Spirits leading when he gives us the opportunity? Do we hesitate?
- How many disciples/followers of Jesus were available at that time that could have talked to Cornelius?
How many angels (spirits) were available to go and deliver the message to Cornelius?
- How many people / spirits are patiently waiting for the opportunity to serve?
I recently watch a short video of Christian Artist talking about every time before he would perform in front of an audience he would pray, "use me LORD, speak through the music and performance", but one time he said he felt the Spirit tap him on the shoulder and say, "what if I want to use the other band/group instead?"
Food for thought:
- wait patiently (no easy task) on the Holy Spirit, being content that your worth to GOD is not dependant on the constant doing, but on obedience.
- leaning to wait patiently by being productive in reading the word, time in prayer and time spent alone with GOD in mediation, is obedience too.
