He Who Laughs Last...

Back to Work

Back to Work

Psalm 28

1 Of David. To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me,
I become like those who go down to the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands
toward your most holy sanctuary.
3 Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts.
4 Give to them according to their work
and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward.
5 Because they do not regard the works of the LORD or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more.
6 Blessed be the LORD!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The LORD is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Thoughts on Psalm 28

- This comparison seems a bit tongue and cheek. We are the ones who are deaf and silent. GOD did alot of talking in the Mosaic period and also from Joshua thru the prophets. We're the ones not listening or responding (silent) in this conversation. Is it any wonder that the "silent pierod" as it's called, the intertestestmental period that GOD didn't have much to say because we weren't listening. GOD in Jesus, through the Holy Spirit however was getting ready for alot of one on one conversations in the form of the incarnation. GOD is definitely not silent or done talking.

- The people who go down to the pit, Hell, Sheol get what want they want, not to hear from GOD anymore. The pit is the one place where they will be able to differentiate and realize beyond a shadow of a doubt that GOD was speaking to them before, they just didn't want to listen. This silence will make the comparison really scream.

- crying for help and lifting up hands to GOD's Sanctuary. What does a small child do sometimes when thier distressed? They cry and hold up thier hands to be picked up and held, safe in the arms of Dad or Mom.

- the wicked and evil doers are doing exactly what thier father does and will do. The false prohets in old testament times would proclaim "peace, peace" and then destruction came. The Pharises had Jesus killed in the name of "peace". In the near future the Anti-Christ will broker a "peace" deal. Peace apart from the Prince of peace is not really peace it's just a poor imitation. It's just another lie from the Father of lies.

- works of the LORD or the works of his hands? We find the explanation of verse five in verse four. If the deeds of an evil person is there work, they should be paid accordingly.
Thier wages as it were should reflect thier work. GOD's work is always good. His hands create light, love and as Genesis tells us everything good. It was the satan and his angels that decided to work apart from GOD. So too was Adam and Woman's choice to give up thier job and work for themselves. GOD is worthy to receive something for the work of his hand, but those who are evil (spirits or human) want to give him no wages at all. Don't miss the last part of the verse GOD will tear them down.
👋 hey Mr. Devil that's you!, and anyone that works for you. Torn down, never, ever to be rebuilt. Seeing as were talking about wages considered it your pink slip or as Emperor Kuzco would say, "You're being let go. Your department's being downsized. You're part of an outplacement. We're going in a different direction. We're not picking up your option. Take your pick. I got more"
Wait! Also your outplacement is "Fire!"

- The LORD hears and he is David's strength and shield. David exults the LORD in song.
The peoples strength is the LORD and a saving refuge for his anointed.

- David asks the LORD to save and bless his people. Jesus saved us and we will be called the children of the most high, sons and daughters of the King, we are indeed richly blessed. Jesus is our shepherd from now through eternity.

My prayer is that wherever you are and whatever your job, you get paid fairly for the work of your hands. In that same vein I pray you see GOD's work as deserving the compensation due to him for the work of his hands.

ps consider Jesus' work on the cross for one.
