Psalm 30

1 A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple. I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
2 O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.
3 O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
4 Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.fn
5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
6 As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.”
7 By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
8 To you, O LORD, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
9 “What profit is there in my death,fn
if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me!
O LORD, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Thoughts:

- this was a song David used at the dedication of the temple. This song also hits all the right notes with the real temple not made by hands when he stood inside Herod's reasonable handmade facsimile.

- David was glad the LORD did not let his foes rejoice over him. Jesus' foes prematurely rejoiced and then on rhe third day they were left in painful, stunned silence. For the rebels it would have been an immediate revelation because they can see in our realm and their unseen realm. Jesus quoting Psalm twenty-two, a cry for help, was to show help was heard because he was healed from death and restored to life.

- verse three is spot on, Jesus went and took the keys from the Devil, gave him his pink slip, and preached the good news to the captive children of Abraham. Freedom to all those in the "bosom of Abraham" and proclaim defeat to those elohim imprisoned in chains.

- As you might expect there was some joyful singing and rejoicing that day. Singing, praising and giving thanks to his holy name. All of heaven wouldn't have missed this incredible day of triumpumful entry, walking on the streets of gold.

- verse five GOD's anger and justice was satisfied on the cross in a moment. His favor through Christ Jesus and all who call him LORD and big brother (see Hebrews 2:11) will last an eternity.

- David knows his strength comes from GOD and is terrified when GOD hides his face. That is the barometer of a heart that knows it needs the LORD. Those who are terrifed to be without him unlike the Devil and his children and the other rebels that want nothing more that to be rid of GOD.

- verses 8-10 David pleads for GOD's mercy and to save him from death. GOD's repley through Jesus, on the cross, "it is finished."

- on resurrection morning our mourning was turned to dancing, our sackcloth was changed snowy white and adorned with gladness, our silence was turned to singing.
How long should we give thanks?
For eternity.

My prayer echos alot of the last thought.
Let Jesus be the reason you dance, clothed in his righteous, glad, sing, and forever thankful.
